Sometimes waiting can make me impatient. Many of you can most likely relate to that statement. It’s true with anything. I find myself wanting a certain day or time to arrive for one reason or another. It’s usually when I know I have company coming into town and I just can’t wait for them to pull into the driveway. Waiting can also become quite boring as you’re trying to find ways to pass the time until they arrive. In our case here, the one arriving is your little bundle of joy. I’m sure you’re super excited and cherishing every moment of your pregnancy, but I can also guess that you’re eagerly awaiting his/her arrival.
While you’re waiting and trying to find ways to turn thirty minutes into two hours, I have just a few ways that can take up a huge chunk of it if you’re looking for something new and exciting.
This first one may already be done, started, or on your radar already: nursery decorating! From getting to choose a theme and a room color to picking up books and toys, this should be a fun part of the nine months. I’m sure you’re already thinking about what stuffed animals you want them to snuggle with and what kind of books you want to read to them. Depending on where you live, this process could take a while as you have to clear out a room to use, potentially paint the walls, get all the furniture, and get everything else you want in their room to make it cozy. Therefore, start on it early and take your time to plan it out so that it gives you something to do to pass the time no matter what trimester you’re in.
The second option I would suggest is to start up a new hobby. There are so many different things you can get into which make hobbies endless like knitting, writing, drawing, painting, bird watching, and jewelry making just to name a few. Anything that stimulates your mind will make hours go by, especially if it’s something you enjoy doing. It’s like the universe always says, “time flies when you’re having fun.”
To go more in depth with this second suggestion, let’s take three of the options I gave out (knitting, writing, and drawing) and go more into detail with them.
Starting with knitting, this can be good to learn if you want to make your baby their first blanket or some clothes. You could take the time to make yourself a scarf or even get a head start on Christmas gifts for your friends and family. This hobby is something that is simple to learn, and I say that because I learned how to knit in a car.
With writing, you can become creative and this is something that doesn’t need to be learned. Anyone can write. Also, writing can mean a lot of things to different people. To one person this may mean writing a short story or poem and to another this could mean journaling. Either way, if you do start up writing, it’s a good way to release your emotions and get your thoughts down on paper. Journaling is nice because you can go day by day and write to your little one. That way when you stumble upon it in the future you’re reminded of everything that happened while pregnant with them.
The last one, drawing, is another hobby that anyone can do. It’s a way to express your emotions and pull out the creativity inside of you. This is also a good activity to pick up if you want to decorate with paintings around the nursery. That way they’re made by you!
All of these things and whatever other hobbies you might pick up are all excellent ways to not only pass the time, but to also reduce stress. Double win!
The third item on this list is Netflix. Yes, Netflix. What better way to pass time than to get cozy on the couch in your comfy clothes with some popcorn, something sweet, something to drink, or a bowl of fruit and just watch something new. There have been many times where I’ve found myself saying, “just one more episode,” and then realizing that half my day has gone by. You also don’t have to go anywhere specific to watch your shows, so if you don’t feel like going out, you don’t have to! And you have so many options. You can get into a new series, watch some classic movies, or even go back and re-watch your favorite shows.
The final thing you could do while you are patiently (or impatiently) awaiting your baby is read. Just like anything else now-a-days, there are so many books to read. You could re-read some of your favorite novels, you could get into a classic book, you could pick up a new series that you’ve always been wanting to try, or you could try a genre that you haven’t delved into before. Something new always a mystery because you never know if it’ll spark a newfound love or not. It’s like another saying goes, “you’ll never know if you don’t try.”
So, as the days continue to pass, and as you are looking at the countdown clock to your due date, find time to try new things and relax. These nine months are what you make of it, so instead of becoming impatient and wanting the day to arrive, sit back with something to pass the time. Soon enough your little bundle of joy will be here, and then you won’t have to worry about wanting time to fly; you’ll worry about trying to make it stop.
