Congratulations! It must be so exciting to be expecting! And during the summer? Even better, right? Well, for the most part. There are many aspects about being pregnant during the summer that make women want the experience to be over with in a blink of an eye. Yet, there’s so many more amazing, positive sides to being pregnant in the summer, but that isn’t the topic for today. Today is all about dressing properly to escape the heat and enjoy your summer so that you aren’t the one dreading the next few months.
For the summer, it’s always going to feel like a struggle wanting to stay cool while looking trendy. Therefore, I’ve come up with four tips on what will look good and feel great to keep you glowing all summer long.
1. Wear outfits that are comfortable and breathable. I know this might seem like a no-brainer, but it’s so true. If you’re comfortable and able to move around freely, tacking the summer will become easier. Some clothing options to maximize both points include long, flowy skirts, maxi dresses, flowy tops, and cotton shorts. Skirts go along with most anything, especially if you choose one in gray or black. Even a floral pattern would be nice for the summer since the colors are usually lighter. Same goes with cotton shorts as cotton is a natural fiber fabric that helps to regulate temperatures and keep you cool.
Another option here to achieve comfort would be any dress. Even a sundress would work because you can usually dress them up or down depending on the occasion. This will allow you to achieve comfort as dresses usually aren’t super tight and can allow you to move around easily. Dresses are a good way to feel stylish even on the days you don’t feel like putting in effort. They are simple and easy to throw on, and I personally think they’re easier than having to find and match a pair of shorts with a shirt.
2. Choose to put on a pair of slip on sandals or flip-flops.
As the weather becomes hotter, people usually swell up a little more, and it only gets more hectic when you’re pregnant. That and if you’re rocking a bump at this point, it’s harder to put on shoes. Hence why flip-flops or sandals are perfect because you don’t have to worry about bending over to tie your shoes or figure out how you’re going to put them on. Also, these can be super comfortable to walk in, they’re breathable since your feet aren’t enclosed, and you can dress them up or dress them down for whatever you need.
3. Accentuate with jewelry. Having monochromatic outfits like a gray maxi dress or a black shirt with black shorts/leggings are all good outfits. I know most people find them boring, but if you pair them with some bold statement pieces, then your outfit turns into something beautiful. Adding something like a red necklace, or crazy earrings takes the attention away from what you’re wearing and to the accent pieces. You don’t even have to put much thought or effort into an outfit when you do this, and many people won’t even realize the simplicity of what you’re wearing which is a plus.
4. Wear lighter colored clothing.
Lighter colors will reflect the sun instead of absorb it, so you’ll end up staying cooler. A nice floral top that is white with pink flowers with a pair of shorts or gray leggings will be much cooler than something that is a darker top with black leggings. Even a gray maxi dress will be cooler than a black one; although, having black clothes aren’t bad for the previous tip above.
Staying cool during the summer is definitely one of the most important things while being pregnant because the sun can cause you to become overheated and dehydrated faster than you think. It’s one thing to want to look trendy and fashionable during the summer with cute outfits to show off your bump, but you also want to take care of yourself. Therefore, if you go out and grab some staple items for your wardrobe like I mentioned above, you’ll be able to look super fashionable without too much effort. Everyone will think you’re beautiful without having to know how comfortable you actually are.
